Homemade “Goldfish Crackers” : A Mom’s Recipe for Snack Time Success

Hey there, fellow parents, caregivers, and snack enthusiasts!

Today, I’m excited to share with you a recipe that’s been a game-changer in my household – homemade Goldfish crackers! As a mom who’s always on the lookout for healthier, homemade alternatives to store-bought snacks, I can’t wait to show you just how easy and delicious these little fishies are to make.

So, grab your aprons and let’s dive into this tasty adventure!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, diced
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons cold water

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a food processor, combine the flour, cold butter, grated cheddar cheese. Pulse until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add the cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, while continuing to pulse the mixture until it forms a dough. You may not need to use all of the water – just enough to bring the dough together.
  4. Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about 1/8 inch thickness. Using a small fish-shaped cookie cutter (or any shape you prefer), cut out the crackers and place them onto the prepared baking sheet.
  5. If desired, use a toothpick to create the signature Goldfish cracker smiley face on each fish.
  6. Bake the crackers in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Allow the crackers to cool completely on the baking sheet before serving. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days (if they last that long!).
  8. Enjoy your homemade Goldfish crackers as a delicious and wholesome snack for the whole family!

Cool hack:

Prepare a batch to freeze for later snacking! Instead of baking, place the cut-out crackers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze until firm, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container. They honestly don’t last long here at my house!

When ready to enjoy, bake from frozen at the same temperature for a few extra minutes until golden and crispy. Voila! Homemade goldfish goodness anytime!

These homemade Goldfish crackers are not only fun to make but also a healthier alternative to the store-bought version. Plus, they’re customizable – feel free to experiment with different cheese flavors or add herbs and spices for an extra burst of flavor.

I hope you and your little ones enjoy making and munching on these homemade Goldfish crackers as much as we do in my household.
